Dry eye is one of the most common reasons people come to see us, and one of the most commonly under-treated. Symptoms are often dismissed as tiredness or hay fever when there is an underlying and treatable cause.
Symptoms we assess
- Gritty or sandy sensation
- Burning or stinging
- Watery, streaming eyes
- Crusting or debris on the lashes
- Red or sore lid margins
- Fluctuating or blurred vision
- Discomfort with contact lenses
- Worse on screens or in wind
Watery eyes are frequently a sign of dry eye rather than the opposite, the eye over-produces tears of the wrong composition to compensate.
What an assessment involves
- Discussion of your symptoms, medication and daily routine
- Examination of the lid margins, lashes and tear film
- Assessment of tear quality and stability
- A written plan covering lid care, treatments and review
