Children’s eye care

Good vision is essential for your child’s learning, development and confidence.

At Norfolk Opticians we provide friendly, child-focused eye tests to make the experience easy, comfortable and even enjoyable for young patients.

Our team is experienced in working with children of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers, and we take the time to explain each step so they feel relaxed and at ease.

What we offer for children

  • NHS children’s eye tests: free for eligible under-16s and under-19s in full-time education
  • Vision checks for learning support: identifying sight problems that may affect schoolwork
  • Glasses for children: comfortable, durable and stylish frames suitable for young wearers
  • Eye health monitoring: spotting early signs of conditions that could affect vision later in life

When should my child have their eyes tested?

Children do not need to be able to read to have their eyes tested. We recommend a first eye test at around three to four years old, and then regularly through school, children rarely report a vision problem themselves, because they assume everyone sees the way they do.
