Frequently asked questions

If you cannot find what you need, call the practice and we will help.

Do you offer free NHS eye tests in Scunthorpe and Brigg?

Yes. Both our Scunthorpe (Ashby High Street) and Brigg practices provide NHS-funded sight tests for everyone who qualifies, including children under 16, people aged 60 and over, and patients with diabetes or glaucoma. If you are not sure whether you qualify, call us and we will check for you.

How long does an eye examination take?

Our Advanced Eye Examination typically lasts 40 to 45 minutes. That allows time for OCT retinal scanning, detailed refraction and binocular vision analysis, and a proper discussion of your results. We do not operate a volume-based model of care.

Can I be seen urgently without going to A&E?

Yes. We are an accredited provider of the NHS Community Urgent Eyecare Service (CUES). If you have sudden changes in vision, new flashes or floaters, a red or painful eye, light sensitivity, a suspected infection or an eye injury, contact us and you can usually be assessed the same day by an optometrist, with no GP referral needed.

How much does a private eye examination cost?

Our Advanced Private Eye Examination includes OCT retinal scanning as standard, and new patients can currently claim 15% off. Please call the practice for current pricing.

Pricing to be confirmed by the practice.

Do you test children’s eyes?

Yes. Children’s sight tests are funded by the NHS, and we see children of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers. Children do not need to be able to read to have their eyes tested, and we take time to explain each step so they feel at ease.

Where can I park?

Both Ashby High Street in Scunthorpe and Bridge Street in Brigg have parking close by. Please contact the practice for the most convenient option on the day.

Parking detail to be confirmed for each practice.

Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?

We recommend booking so we can give you the full unhurried appointment. For urgent eye problems, call ahead and we will fit you in as soon as we can.

Can I use my own prescription to buy glasses from you?

Yes. You are entitled to a copy of your prescription after any sight test, and you are free to have it dispensed anywhere. We are happy to dispense a prescription issued elsewhere, provided it is current.
